ANDY WARHOL
PRIEST OF POP ART
Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the one of the greatest artist of post war, in fact people claim him to be the touchdown of the whole culture in the 20th century. When Andy Warhol was asked in a press conference that why he copied art from advertisements and what was his point in making this art? He just replied that it was easier to do and gives him something to do. He was a hardworking, church goer, business man, social climber, empire builder and veteran consumer. Most of us dream of success in life but Andy wanted to be a superstar , have his big “ NOVA “ and it did happen , but the changing of culture also has its consequence which were profound.
The most best things about Andy’s work was his clarity that made people get in direct contact and involvement with his work that they become excited to see such a thing exist . His ideas were always very impressive and his art always conveyed something about life that could be conveyed in philosophical term.
Bringing together rich people , poor people , queer people , movie people , literal people , these all people coming together was one of the basis of Andy’s art. Some say Andy Warhol was a complex human being who claims to be easy, he also has called himself an alien from different planet. His life was like the novel – Born during the great depression in a poor family, coming to New York in dreams of becoming someone and finally achieving that.

Art became part of his life, when he was little 9 years old shy boy. Later on drawing what he saw in real life weather it was people walking on street or a flower. Blotted ink drawing became his new joy in his teenage life, from which he create different patterns using different colors. He was fascinated as to many drawings could be made from one single drawing from here his journey began to the new evolution of culture. This lead him to silk screen printing technique in which he turned people’s expectations upside down by presenting commonplace objects, or repeated graphic images as works of “fine art” simply by presenting them in a way that no one had ever thought of before. The Campbell soup can and coke were the two things which made this famous. Andy Warhol became an expert at marketing both his own public life, as well as those of cultural icons like singer Elvis Presley or actress Marilyn Monroe.
Color is often used in art to evoke a certain emotion from the audience. However Andy Warhol’s art does not depict any sort of emotion or sensation through his choice of color. Instead, his paintings and prints follow various color schemes, completely unrelated to any specific emotion. His decision to use colors based solely on color scheme and not because of any sensation for the color adds to Warhol’s disconnected method of making multiple prints with different colors. For example, in Warhol’s Space Fruit: Still Lifes (Pears), he uses complementary colors, which are yellow-green and red-purple. Warhol did not seek to convey any sort of emotion by choosing these colors, but rather decided to create this piece using a complementary color scheme

MY REVIEW

MARIYN MONROE
For me one of the fascinating art was his prints of Marilyn Monroe, which he printed shortly after her death in 1962 . Just as he did in his other pieces of artwork, Warhol simply used various color schemes, and more often than not when it comes to the Marilyn series, multiple color schemes are used in one single print. The colors he chose, however, are meant to give the beauty and glamour which was associated with Marilyn Monroe’s persona. Every single print in this art displays different – different light on her face , even the little splash here and there represents a different print , which enhances the art .
ELVIS PRESLEY
The famous Elvis Presley, singer of all-time favorite “Can’t help falling in love with you “ , also was one of the icon of Andy’s prints . The image used was one taken from publicity still from the 1960’s film Flaming Star. In this photo, Elvis Presley is dressed as a cowboy with gun drawn, rather than the usual guitar in hand, revealing Warhol’s intent to depict Elvis as an actor, rather than to portray him as a musician. This distinct choice to have a black image on a silver long strip could possibly be mimicking a film strip or “The silver screen”. In this art he used many overlapping prints of Elvis , making it double Elvis , eight Elvis etc.
