MY PROJECT

My inspiration of guitar body was from pop art . As i mentioned the most important thing that influenced pop art was daily life happenings - like  love , death , connections etc .
The shape of my guitar body was influenced by the face of a women that were used in the art of Andy Warhol - Marilyn Monroe and that of Roy Lichtenstein where he used dramatic expressions of women's face in his comic art . The main feature which were similar in both their works was the red lips - Hot red lips . So i made the lips in proportion of a guitar using sun board and coloring it with acrylic spray paint . The neck and head stock  of the guitar was again one of the things that people were attracted to in the 60s and even nowadays - smoking . Showing the cigarette as the head made out of sun board and using black spray paint to give the burnt look .
I made the fret board and the strings using vegetable noodles that we get in supermarkets , this was because Andy Warhol using Campbell soup can in his art , gave me the idea of using a food product that looked like frets and strings . This plan worked for the frets but for strings to strengthen them i had to put glue on top of it to make it stronger as it was fragile  . Atlas i colored them black to give a contrasting look   to the white cigarette . The sound hole of the guitar is the partition in between the lips that was been cut out and the string peg was also shown using sun board .

The wooden guitar was made by me to purely to understand the parts and functions of each part of the guitar as i explained earlier . The body was made of MDF board and for the neck i used timber wood . For the fret board i used aluminum wire and wire inlaying technique . The head stock as well as the saddle also made of rectangular piece of wood was given shapes and holes were drilled using the drilling machine , each part was made separately and stuck using fevicol . The aluminium wire comes in the end . For finishing the look i was exploring plywood creating big round circles that looked like bendy - dots used by Roy Lichtenstein . I stuck them as such so they could create  curves of the guitar and also used off white color so it contrast with the wood .Wood varnish was applied to all the pieces to make it long lasting and give it a shiny look .
